Top Ten Most Common Landscaping Tools
If you’ve ever seen pictures or video of the backyards of your friends and neighbors, then you’ve probably noticed that they are not all the same. Some have larger backyards, while others have lawns that are small and neatly maintained. Some have large and thick flower beds, while others have grassy green lawns that are barely noticeable. And of course, there are backyards that feature a mixture of all of these elements. To come up with our Top 10 most commonly used landscaping tools, we examined some of the types of yards and landscapes that people tend to build.
These are the tools that are most commonly seen on most any yard. Of course, there are a few other types of tools that can be found in your average yard as well. But these tools represent the core set of tools for most any yard.
Trowels. We started off with the basic tool, the trowel. While trowels can be used to perform many tasks, they are primarily used for tilling your garden soil and working the grass. There are various sizes of trowels and some are designed for specific purposes. For example, some gardeners like to use smaller trowels for delicate weed plants and flowerbeds, and larger ones for more hardy shrubs and grass.
The next item on our list is the lawnmower
This is a particularly useful tool for most gardens, whether you have a small yard or a large yard. A lawnmower is great because it helps you keep your grass cut short. This helps keep the grass healthier and reduces the risk of it being susceptible to disease. If you have a large lawn, then you might consider using a riding mower, which is basically a tractor with a spinning blade.
Edgers. Edgers can be used for almost any landscaping task, although there are certain tasks that only an edger can do. An edger is especially helpful in producing square shaped flowerbeds, yard trimmings, and other decorative shapes. I wouldn’t recommend using an edger on grass though, as it may end up with your lawn looking uneven.
Gloves. If you want to work on your lawn without accidentally injuring yourself or damaging your flowerbeds or lawn, then gloves are definitely a necessity. You can use gardening gloves, which are usually used for protecting the hands from chemical fertilizers and gardening equipment, or gardening mitts which protect the hands and fingers from small pieces of fallen grass and weeds.
Gardening forks. These are another top ten gardening tool. They are mainly used for pulling weeds, digging furrows for transplants, and raking out dead leaves and branches off of a sidewalk or driveway. There are many different types of gardening fork, with some having more traction than others, so be sure to get one that’s best suited to your gardening needs.
Pruners. These are also part of the top ten most frequently used landscaping tools. For pruning, this tool can be used to thin out thick plants, remove some buds, and even do some small trimming around a tree. A pruner also comes in handy when trying to grow a vine, and can be used to train ivy. If you haven’t used a pruner before, you’ll definitely need to invest in a quality set, as poorly made pruners can do some serious damage to your garden.
Weed whackers. Many people assume that weed whackers are strictly for the landscaping business, but they are actually very handy for many other things. Washing cars, for example, is one thing many people do from time to time, and a weed whacker could come in very handy for getting rid of those pesky unwanted plants. Other people use weed whackers to shape their yard. This is a useful tool to have if you are someone who likes to do DIY projects like this, as it will allow you to get a better edge without having to resort to chemical pesticides.
Hoes. Landscaping tools aren’t just used for cutting grass; there are many other uses for them as well
People have been using hoes for years, whether it’s to get rid of clover, shrubs, or weeds. The key to using a hoe effectively is understanding how to control it properly. You don’t want to damage your lawn or garden with it, so make sure you learn how to use it properly before taking it into the field.
Of course, these are just a few of the tools you can find on the list of top ten most commonly used gardening tools. While they are extremely important and play an important role in your garden, there are hundreds of other items that might be just as useful. The best way to learn more about gardening is to get a book on it or just do some research online. You never know when you’ll come across an idea you never knew existed! In fact, you may find a tool that will inspire you to create something even better than what you already have planned.
